It is headquartered at Naval Support Activity Naples, in Italy. It was originally established in February 1950 by redesignation of the former Sixth Task Fleet.
The fleet has is own band, The Sixth Fleet Band, which is the U.S.Navy's official band in Europe. The primary mission of the band is to support Commander, Naval Forces Europe and Africa/Joint Forces Command Naples and Commander, Sixth Fleet priorities, official military ceremonies, official receptions and other occasions which serve to enhance the morale and welfare of U.S. and Allied Forces personnel. The band is also often involved in efforts to improve international community relations among partner nations (herejoigned for illustration a picture of the band playing for the 1995 Cannes' movie festival opening)
Uniquely, the band is composed of active duty Navy musicians, augmented by foreign-service musicians from Italy who unite to fashion dynamic specialty units designed to fulfill almost any possible request for musical support.
Its may perform traditional American marches, Top-40 hits, or authentic renditions of local international favorites, as recorded on this LP.
Chief Warrant Officer Karl D.Flite (Dale City, Virginia, USA) was the conductor of this band, appointed by the U.S.Navy in September 1984 and retired August 1995. He was assisted on this album by Senior Chief Musician Al Monaro (Varcaturo, Italy).
The album has been recorded and pressed in 1987 (also approximate release, at Phonotype Record Studios in Naples) and was reserved for a private circle (this album not for sale printed on the back cover). Rights Society: SIAE
